The audiobook of The Extrapolated Man is now available on the major platforms: Amazon, Apple, Barnes and Noble, and Google Play.
When I was at the Science Fiction and Fantasy WorldCon this summer in Seattle, I met Gabrielle de Cuir and Stefan Rudnicki of Skyboat Media, an audiobook production house. They were looking for new projects, and I was looking for someone to produce an audiobook version of The Extrapolated Man. I listened to some of their work and one thing led rapidly to another.
Last week I finished listening to their pre-production release, much of it while driving back and forth to Byers Lake to try out some Nordic skates (made here in Alaska by Ermine Skates – awesome, highly recommended). I’m not a big fan of long drives, but those hours on the road passed quickly. The narrators bring the characters to life in ways that surprised and delighted me.
Initially, Stefan and Gabrielle divide the narration between the thread that takes place aboard Gray’s ship and the thread about Maggie’s adventures on Mars a couple centuries later. This serves to anchor the listener in time. But as the story unfolds, and Gray’s personality emerges in Maggie’s warbot, Stefan’s and Gabrielle’s parts become entwined. It’s a cool effect that I did not expect.
I’m going to stop talking now, because you should hear their work for yourself. If you’re looking for something to listen to on holiday travel, or a gift for the science fiction fan in your life, head on over to your favorite platform and order The Extrapolated Man audiobook now!
